Given the fact that 10th Street, the nearest East-West connection, is so dangerous for biking, it is important that Pershing serve as a safe and comfortable East-West route.

Separation is not enough for this to be safe and comfortable for all ages.

I would love to see a trail-oriented cafe! This would be a huge asset to the neighborhood.

Suggestion
Incorporate separated bicycle lane on Pershing Drive similar to section in place west of N. Barton Street. Where feasible, incorporate raised physical barriers and landscaped areas to separate bicyclists and motorists.

All of the suggestions above will make this site a huge asset to the neighborhood and all of Arlington.

Wholeheartedly agree.

* All references to "separated bike lanes" should be replaced by "protected bike lanes" to reflect the County's commitment to an all-ages and abilities bikeway network. * The language around extending the Pershing Drive protected bike lane should be strengthened from "could" to "should". * The language about upgrading the on-site bus stop should be expanded to indicate that not only should the bus stop be made fully-accessible, it should receive a bench and shelter. * Design guidance should be added to provide "eyes on the trail" to improve safety by providing features such as windows, balconies, and residential entrances that directly abut the trail. * Design guidance should be added to encourage "trail-oriented retail", particularly engaging with the new planned open space at the corner of Arlington Boulevard and Pershing Drive.

The study mentions nearby Capital Bikeshare stations. There is only one nearby (on Pershing Drive), and it is often empty especially during morning when most would want a bike to get to Metro or offices. Any agreement to develop the area should include a requirement to install a Capital Bikeshare station with at least as many docks as the current one.

1) All references to "separated bike lanes" should be replaced by "protected bike lanes" to reflect the County's commitment to an all-ages and abilities bikeway network. 2) The language around extending the Pershing Drive protected bike lane should be strengthened from "could" to "should". 3) The language about upgrading the on-site bus stop should be expanded to indicate that not only should the bus stop be made fully-accessible, it should receive a bench and shelter. 4) Design guidance should be added to provide "eyes on the trail" to improve safety by providing features such as windows, balconies, and residential entrances that directly abut the trail. 5) Design guidance should be added to encourage "trail-oriented retail", particularly engaging with the new planned open space at the corner of Arlington Boulevard and Pershing Drive to focus activity at this new community gathering space. 6) Otherwise this document is great and we appreciate staff and the LRPC's hard work throughout this process.

I like this concentration of density along Route 50 but away from W-L Apartments and the corner of 50 & Pershing.

Suggestion
If extenuating circumstances result in the sign and/or the lobby not being able to be preserved, then the Development Team should be tasked with salvaging and reusing elements thereof. The salvage and reuse plan would be overseen by the County.

This would be a great spot for some trail-oriented retail. It would provide activity, give people a destination on the trail, provide some "eyes on the trail" to improve trail safety. This should be encouraged in these guidelines!!!

Great idea!

Suggestion
Urge the county to consider trail user opportunities as part of the redevelopment. Echoing 2/28 Chris Slatt column in ArlNow.

I like the three images used here. I would like to see a space like this in Arlington.

I love Arlington's trail system. I think that we can make it even better by expanding it. I'm a newer cyclist while my husband is very experienced. We both loving using the trail system in Arlington. We are car free and anytime we can explore a new area safely with a bike we do.

This design guidance should encourage retail here at the corner that embraces the trail. Outdoor seating along the trail, an entrance that is easily-accessible and obvious to trail users, etc.

Could we include an image with a place to sit for the bus stop?

Thanks for including the bus stop on 50. It needs a lot of help!

These are delightful. I hadn't seen them before, and they make this panning document a bit more spicy. Thanks for including.

Yes, thank you for setting a reasonable trail width minimum. 12' is great.

If improved bike facilities are going to be called out here, protected bike facilities should be show in the illustration.

Suggestion
I like increased height along RT. 50. It will passively shield highway noise from green space and make a greater impression for those driving by.

Suggestion
This paragraph described the Arlington Blvd Trail as a "critical east-west connection". The first paragraph under Parks & Open Space described is as a "critical north-south" connection. Suggest settling on a "critical connection" as it provides north-south connectivity in the immediate area but east-west connectivity over the long haul.

Suggestion
Change "separated bike lanes" to "protected bike lanes"

Suggestion
Add "drinking fountain" as an improvement to be considered. Water access along the Arlington Blvd Trail is challenging.

Suggestion
Change "separated bike facility" to "protected bike facility"

Suggestion
Given the high priority placed on bike connectivity "east-west along Pershing Drive" by the community in the first online engagement session, this language should be strengthened beyond just "considering" extending the Pershing Drive protected bike lane. Suggest "The existing protected bike lange found further west on North Pershing Drive should be extended to reach the Arlington Boulevard Trail."
