Listen to Kipp talk about his work Collective Transitions' located at Meacham International Airport. The artwork explores the dynamics of social interaction as a result of shared physical space and imaginative experience. Lightheartedly referencing the function of "paperwork" in both work and play, Kobayashi demonstrates how we collectively impact and are in turn impacted by, what occurs in physical space and our visual site lines.
As an artist, Kobayashi is interested in identifying traces of human activity left behind and imprinted into the structures and systems of our physical work like a patina, absorbed into the structures and systems of our physical world, and transformed into our collective thoughts, actions, and experiences. His work stems from his experiences growing up as an Asian American which has led to a lifelong interest in deconstructing preconceived notions of who we are and what we are to better understand the unique sets of combinations and patterns that define a more nuanced interpretation of identity and cultural belonging.
